The Smart Home Conversation You Should Have Before Demolition

Homeowners ask us all the time: when is the right time to start thinking about smart home technology? The answer is always earlier than they expect.

Homeowners ask us all the time: when is the right time to start thinking about smart home technology? The answer is always earlier than they expect.

Smart home systems aren't something you layer on top of a finished renovation. They live inside the walls — in conduit, in structured cabling, in the location of a control processor, in a panel that needs space in your electrical room. By the time tile is set and cabinets are in, most of those decisions have already been made by default.

What you're actually deciding before demo:

  • Where your home network backbone lives, and how many drops per room
  • Whether your lighting will be smart-switch controlled or dimmer-processor controlled — two completely different rough-in requirements
  • Whether you'll have whole-home audio, and how many zones
  • How your HVAC, shading, and security systems will talk to each other
  • Where the equipment rack or closet goes — and whether it needs cooling

These aren't finish selections. They're structural decisions that need to happen in the design phase.

Working with your designer or architect:

We plug directly into your existing design team. We don't need to own the project — we just need a seat at the coordination table early enough to mark up the drawings before they go to the GC. That's it.

If you're planning a kitchen remodel, a whole-home renovation, or new construction, book a call with us before your contractor pulls permits. A one-hour drawing review now saves weeks of patching, repainting, and compromise later.

Schedule a pre-construction review.
